San Francisco Ballet Announces Dancer Promotions and New Apprentices
March 24, 2021—San Francisco Ballet's roster for the 2022 season will include two new promotions and the appointment of four apprentices. Effective July 1, 2021 corps de ballet dancer Jasmine Jimison will be promoted to soloist and apprentice Olivia Brothers to the corps de ballet.
"I am pleased to announce the promotion of Jasmine Jimison to Soloist and Olivia Brothers to the corps de ballet. Jasmine is an immensely talented and dedicated young dancer who excels in her roles on stage and, this year, on the screen in Myles Thatcher's COLORFORMS," said Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson. "Olivia is a fresh talent who proved this year she is ready to join the corps de ballet. What I am most grateful for in this difficult year is that we've kept our entire company of dancers working, and that I was able to offer four apprentice positions to students from San Francisco Ballet School's Trainee Program. The pandemic has been so difficult for dancers everywhere, but especially those dancers just beginning their careers after years of hard work. I am proud of these dancers and look forward to working with them in the 2022 Season."
Jasmine Jimison
Palo Alto native Jasmine Jimison's dance instruction has included former American Ballet Theatre soloist Kristine Elliott, Bay Area Dance School, Menlo Park Academy of Dance, and San Francisco Ballet School. In 2018 she joined the San Francisco Ballet School Trainee Program as a Level 5 student in 2014. She joined San Francisco Ballet as an apprentice, and in 2019 she was promoted to the corps de ballet. In the same she year performed a principal role in Liam Scarlett's Hummingbird during the Company's tour to Sadler's Wells.
Jimison has danced roles in Company ballets that include Don Quixote, Nutcracker, Romeo & Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Etudes, Sandpaper Ballet, The Little Mermaid, Chamber Symphony in Shostakovich Trilogy, Die Toteninsel Hummingbird, and Cinderella, as well as works outside the Company by Karen Gabay and Goyo Montero.
Jimison's accolades include being named one of 2019's Stars of the Corps by Pointe magazine. She was called a "breakout talent" by San Francisco Chronicle for her singular role in Myles Thatcher's dance film COLORFORMS in the 2021 Digital Season.
Olivia Brothers
A native of Palos Verdes Estates, Brothers training included the Marat Daukayev School in Los Angeles. As a student there in 2017 she won first place at Youth America Grand Prix San Francisco. She joined San Francisco Ballet School as a Level 7 student and moved to Level 8 in 2018. In 2019 she joined the Trainee Program, and then joined the Company as an apprentice the following year.
Brothers' Company performances include roles as a Nutcrakcer Snowflake and Flower, and as one of the Butterflies in the Student Matinee performance of Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2020. In 2019 she danced the roles of a Dryad in Don Quixote and a Nymph in The Sleeping Beauty.
San Francisco Ballet School Students Moved Up as Apprentices
In addition to the two promotions, four trainees of the San Francisco Ballet School have been chosen as apprentice dancers with the Company for the upcoming season. New apprentices Teague Applegate, Juliana Bellissimo, Nicole Moyer, and Jamie Adele Stephens will take classes with the Company and perform in the corps de ballet.
